First Ear Infection

Jacob has been increasingly irritable over the past couple of days/nights. Last night Jacob slept on his mother in the rocking chair and wouldn't let her put him down. He had a pretty rough night before getting to bed time, so we figured something was up, but weren't sure what it was. Then with the long night and increased unhappiness (screaming bloody murder...) along with the bigger rash spots and a different color (bags) under his eyes, Amy called the doctor and took him in.

Jacob was cranky on the way there, to everyone along the way and immediately started smiling once the doctor came in. He has only seen this doctor a few times and hasn't been his favorite in the past. He was immediately smiling as if to say I know who this guy is and he is going to help me. After checking him out, it was found that Jacob has developed his first ear infection and is on an antibiotic for it. His eczema was/is flared up worse, so a prescription of stronger cortisone was written. Direction was given to keep Jacob away from grass in the yard and especially when it is freshly cut. The doctor said it is too early to say whether or not he will have allergies, but to watch him now while he is still pretty young when it comes to being outdoors, etc. Guess the picture from the other night shows how he was enjoying the grass and lets you know who was the culprit with the grass contact... Oh well, now we know another item that may/is causing the flare up of his eczema. We thought it had to do with the heat and when he would sweat, which is still part of the cause...

Jacob did get weighed and we can call him a 20 pounder now. He was 19 pounds, 14 ounces. Those two ounces can be made up in one feeding... ;)! So, it is probably safe to say that at his 9-month appointment in a couple weeks that we have reached this milestone for sure. I remember hearing a statistic around the time Jacob was born that a baby doubles their birthweight in the first 6 months and triple their birth weight at one year old. At this rate, he will probably be the norm or just a little head of it...

Jacob is now getting back to himself. We have now been able to get a few smiles and a couple of giggles, so the drugs are kicking in.
