Too Pooped To Whoop!!

For those of you that know Amy, you know when she is quiet there must be something wrong. Can you honestly believe that she was quiet for basically the whole Michigan vs. Michigan State basketball game at Crisler arena last night? She was in her cheerleading form for about 3-4 minutes at the end of the first half and that was it. Doug was actually the cheerleader of the two... Now that's scary!! Goes to show you how sick Amy is...

Need for Celebration Isn't What It Used To Be…

We are feeling the beginnings of what life will be like after birth having just celebrated our one year wedding anniversary on February 25, 2007. With mom’s feeling of spunkiness being replaced with feelings of dizziness, nausea and fatigue, there was little debate about whether or not to plan a big event for the day. Joking about going to McDonald’s and using a coupon for buying one Big Mac and getting one free became serious and turned into discussion of how bad would it look if we really did do that. After all, they have fries that mom enjoys eating during her ‘bouts of sicknesses. Fortunately, we will not be sharing that dismal story without our child as it did not come to fruition. However, the idea of having a good burger was now the talk of the moment. Mr. Joe’s in Southfield was the place to head for… Upon arrival at Mr. Joe’s and crossing the snow covered parking lot, we came upon a handyman replacing the front door. When asked if they were open (like we didn’t already know), he noted that they were not open on Sundays. After taking a moment to let the disappointment subside and realizing that we just drove 12 miles (important for later) through the winter elements for naught, a new list of “opportunities” were discussed. Keeping with the burger theme, Fuddruckers was mentioned. An instantaneous “OOooooohhhh, Fuddruckers!!” resonated through the Durango. Without a word, we were off to the new location which is only 1-1/2 miles from home. So, we drove 24 miles to go 3… But hey! We were able to eat a good burger and satisfy some cravings… After having an early afternoon lunch, it was the couch for the rest of the day while watching the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, CA. It was all that mom could do to be interested in opening, cutting and eating the ceremonial wedding cake. We are happy to say that there was no reason for disappointment in the cake. The cake was wrapped quite nicely which resulted in a moist and delightfully tasty dessert.

Baby’s First Picture!

Today’s doctor visit was another success. We had a follow-up visit from last Friday so that the ultrasound technician could do a more thorough check of the baby’s size, heartbeat, pictures, etc. We are happy to have found that the baby is still fine and the size is where it needs to be for 8 weeks and 2 days along. Basically, this means that the due date of October 2nd is still good. We were also able to hear the baby’s heartbeat today for the first time. That is pretty darn cool if you ask us! I’m not a doctor, so maybe the volume was set at a good level, but the heart beat seemed to be strong to us. For those who are taking notes and keeping score in attempting to determine the sex of our baby, the heart rate was 174 beats per minute. Our next appointment is scheduled for March 19th upon which Amy will be almost 12 weeks pregnant.

The First Doctor Appointment!!

We had our first doctor appointment on Friday, 2/16/2007 and everything is okay!! According to the doctor everything looks good, in place and is going well. The ultrasound tech was out due to an emergency surgery, but the doctor did do a quick ultrasound on her own to check things. We were able to see the heart beat and see that there really is life growing inside of me. All of the nausea, exhaustion and pains, etc. is unfortunately just a part of being pregnant so the doctor says... We visited with the doctor in her office before the examinations took place. The doctor asked "So, how are you feeling Amy?". I said "UUUggghh!" while sticking out my tongue. With which the doctor replied, "Good, that is what we like to hear" as she was grinning from ear to ear. Easy for her to say so I thought. It did help me to settle down and realize that she knows what she is talking about as I viewed the picture of her three children. We were sent home with some goodies and a feeling of success that everything is going well and is on track to a healthy baby. That's all there is to report until our next appointment (ultrasound follow-up) on Wednesday the 21st.

Amy's Pregnant!!

Hey Everyone!!

We are expecting our first child in October of 2007. It was a very stressful end of January when Amy became very sick with flu-like symptoms along with a fever and a serious bout with an upper respiratory infection. She started feeling ill on a Sunday afternoon after spending the weekend in a cabin with her sister's family. As you may or may not know, we have been trying to conceive. Amy was a real trooper and refused to take any medication (ibuprofen) for her fever and other symptoms as she didn't know whether she was pregnant or not. After considering the options, I strongly recommended taking one ibuprofen to see if it would help ease the issues going on. Amy was still very sick on Monday, so she called a new doctor's office (didn't get a family doctor in the area yet) and was fortunately able to get in right away. The doctor took Amy's history and Amy noted that she was trying to get pregnant. The doctor said that they treated patients who are trying to get pregnant the very same way they treat patients who are pregnant and requested Amy's authorization for administering a pregnancy test. Amy, of course, consented. The doctor did the routine checks of blood pressure, temperature (101.9), etc. and then left. Upon her return, she diagnosed Amy as having a bad upper respiratory infection and proceeded to tell Amy how she would treat her. Then... said that she would not be able to prescribe anything for her because the test was positive!! Amy responded "what test?" The doctor said your pregnancy test. With which Amy answered "What does that mean?". The doctor said that you are pregnant (I'm still wondering if the doctor said this with a straight face). Amy was really out of it with the aches and pains of the high fever and coughing, etc. so I'm sure she wasn't all there that day because the same banter happened a second time. After settling herself down and getting home, she called the ob/gyn and made our first appointment on Feb. 16, 2007. Now you have our latest scoop! Stayed tuned as we experience the nuances of becoming a parent. This will be a very interesting and exciting journey.
